Summary
- New Snapdragon Wear Elite chip boosts performance and efficiency.
- Features a dedicated NPU for advanced AI capabilities on wearables.
- Expected to improve battery life and charging speeds significantly.

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon Wear Elite, its first processor series designed for wearables. This new chip aims to significantly enhance the performance and capabilities of smartwatches and AI-driven devices like pendants.
Built on a 3nm process, the Snapdragon Wear Elite features an upgraded five-core CPU and a more powerful GPU. Qualcomm states this leads to up to five times faster single-threaded CPU performance and seven times faster GPU speeds compared to previous models.
The processor incorporates a dedicated NPU, the first for a Snapdragon wearable chip to support AI models up to two billion parameters. This enables advanced AI features such as keyword recognition, noise cancellation, context-aware recommendations, and AI agents that can manage tasks.
Wear OS devices equipped with the Snapdragon Wear Elite are projected to benefit from up to 30 percent better battery life and charging speeds that can reach 50 percent in just ten minutes. The chip also supports a wide array of connectivity options, including 5G, enhanced Bluetooth, and satellite connectivity.
Major tech partners, including Google, Motorola, and Samsung, are backing the new platform. The first consumer devices featuring the Snapdragon Wear Elite are anticipated to be available in the next few months, potentially challenging Apple's dominant market share in the smartwatch sector.
