19 Jun
Summary
- Snap unveiled new AR glasses, Specs, expected this fall.
- The glasses are powered by two undisclosed Snapdragon processors.
- Snap declined to reveal the specific Snapdragon chips used.

Snap has revealed its next generation of AR glasses, named Specs, with an expected release this fall. CEO Evan Spiegel heralded the new device as the commencement of a "new era in computing." These Specs are powered by two distinct Snapdragon processors, one for the display and another for general computing tasks.
However, the specific Snapdragon chips integrated into the glasses remain undisclosed by Snap. Qualcomm representatives confirmed the processors belong to their AR product family but demurred on specifics, suggesting the Specs represent a "different category of device" compared to higher-end MR products.
It is confirmed that the new Specs will not feature the latest Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, which is slated for more advanced devices like Samsung's Galaxy XR headset. The previous version of Snap Specs utilized the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR+1 Gen 1 chipset.
Snap has yet to confirm if the new Specs feature a customized chipset. Both Snap and Qualcomm have deferred to each other regarding the announcement of the exact silicon being used. Speculation suggests a customized version of the AR+1 Gen 1 or a new, unannounced chip may be employed. Qualcomm is anticipated to announce new AR chips at its annual Snapdragon Summit in September or October.
