Sky is preparing a substantial operating system upgrade for its Glass and Stream television devices, aiming to enhance user experience. This new Sky OS is designed to streamline how users interact with their televisions, from accessing content to managing recordings.
The updated interface makes the TV guide instantly accessible and allows for live trailer previews directly from the home screen. Channel navigation is also improved with logos replacing text names, and direct channel access without Picture-In-Picture interruptions.
Significant changes include the removal of the Restart rail and the introduction of separate Watchlists and Recordings sections. Sports content will now have a dedicated page aggregating material from all channels and apps, while My Account, Tech Search, and Settings are also more prominently placed.
Recording options have been expanded to include 'Record Series,' 'Save to Watchlist,' and 'Set Reminder,' with a new feature allowing users to track a specific football team across various leagues. Recordings are stored in the cloud, offering up to 1,000 hours of storage capacity.
Voice search capabilities have been enhanced for better speech recognition and more complex queries, even incorporating web-based information. The Sky Go app is also receiving an upgrade for Glass and Stream customers, enabling remote recording scheduling. The new OS is expected to roll out by the end of the year, with potential early access through trials.
