31 Jul
Summary
- Skullcandy's new headphones integrate Bose ANC and audio tech.
- Personalized EQ significantly enhances sound quality and clarity.
- Hardware is bulky and heavy, with a sometimes annoying bass dial.

Skullcandy's recently released Crusher 1080 ANC wireless headphones feature significant Bose technology integration, a first for non-Bose wireless cans. These include Bose's QuietControl adaptive active noise-cancellation (ANC) and TrueSpatial audio for an immersive listening experience, alongside Bose's WaveForm audio engine. The sound quality, though initially bass-heavy, is greatly improved by a personalized EQ feature in the accompanying app, which tunes audio to individual hearing and enhances clarity. Bose's TrueSpatial technology further widens the soundstage, offering a choice between 'still' and 'motion' modes for added immersion.
The ANC performance is notably effective, significantly reducing ambient noise in busy environments like city streets and coffee shops. A transparency mode, powered by a six-mic array, allows users to hear their surroundings without removing the headphones, offering a clear and non-tinny experience. However, the headphones falter in call quality, with environmental noise compromising conversations. The physical design is bulky and heavier than competitors, with the adjustable 'Crusher Wheel' for bass sometimes proving inconveniently sensitive to accidental adjustments. Battery life tests suggest it falls short of the advertised 50 hours with ANC active, yielding closer to 33 hours.
