AI Pilot Takes Flight into Space Domain
3 Dec
Summary
- Shield AI's autonomous software now targets satellite operations.
- Partnership uses Sedaro's simulation tools for space testing.
- Goal: enable satellites to perform tasks without ground control.

Defense technology firm Shield AI is expanding its reach into the space industry through a strategic alliance with Sedaro, a startup specializing in cloud-based simulation tools. This partnership will focus on adapting Shield AI's Hivemind Pilot system for satellite operations, with the ambitious goal of enabling spacecraft to perform a greater number of tasks autonomously, thereby diminishing the need for constant ground control.
The collaboration, announced on December 3rd, positions Sedaro's digital engineering environment as the primary platform for developing and testing Shield AI's software in space-related scenarios. Hivemind Pilot, renowned for allowing aerial, maritime, and ground vehicles to operate collaboratively in GPS-denied conditions, will be integrated as Sedaro's preferred autonomy software for future in-orbit demonstrations.
This initiative addresses the increasing demand for AI technologies that can grant satellites more freedom to maneuver, respond to threats, and coordinate operations. As the space industry shifts towards larger, distributed constellations, the need for autonomy that reduces human oversight is becoming paramount, marking a significant entry point for Shield AI into this evolving market.
