India ignites semiconductor ambitions at SEMICON 2026

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated SEMICON India 2026, a pivotal three-day conference and exhibition centered on the semiconductor and electronics value chain. The event unites global and domestic companies, policymakers, investors, researchers, and academic institutions.

The conference, beginning on Thursday, September 17, 2026, emphasizes advancing collaboration, investment, innovation, and talent development within India. Parallel sessions will explore advancements in the display industry, facilitate international joint ventures through country roundtables, and feature a forum on women's leadership.

SEMICON India 2026 showcases the entire "Sand to Silicon to Systems" value chain experience. The exhibition includes six country pavilions and numerous state booths, alongside a startup pavilion and innovation showcase. This event underscores India's long-term commitment to growing its chip industry and attracting global investment.

The inauguration follows India's recent pledge of ₹1.9 trillion ($19.8 billion) in subsidies to bolster local chip and electronics production. Past initiatives have already supported significant expansions, such as Apple's increased iPhone manufacturing in the region. India's strategic push is accelerating efforts to build a domestic industry across the supply chain, offering support for startups, chip-making equipment, and new manufacturing facilities.
