Summary
- Space Development Agency awarded a $49M contract to Capella Space.
- Two satellites will demonstrate advanced tactical military communications.
- Tests aim to prove reliable LEO military comms under interference.

The Space Development Agency (SDA) has awarded a contract valued at up to $49 million to Capella Space for the development of two satellites. These spacecraft are intended to demonstrate advanced space-based military communications capabilities. The agreement, utilizing the Hybrid Acquisition for Proliferated Low Earth Orbit (HALO) mechanism, will see Capella design and build satellites equipped with specialized radio frequency payloads.
The mission aims to exhibit reliable tactical communications in low Earth orbit, even under jamming conditions. Key demonstrations will include advanced tactical waveform performance and adaptive beamforming. Testing is slated for completion by November 2027, evaluating the resilience of military-grade communication links.
This effort is part of SDA's broader strategy to build the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture. Capella's award falls under the "Europa" Track 1 program, specifically designed for experimental projects feeding into this larger constellation. This marks the second Europa award, following a previous contract with AST SpaceMobile.
