Scrolling Reimagined: Turning Text into TikTok-Style Feeds
20 Sep
Summary
- ScrollEd transforms any text file into an engaging AI-generated feed.
- The app uses video, audio, and quizzes to make learning interactive.
- It aims to meet younger generations on platforms they already use.

The prevailing view that digital habits hinder learning may be misguided, according to the startup ScrollEd. This Palo Alto-based company is challenging the notion that shorter attention spans necessitate abandoning digital content. Instead, ScrollEd proposes a novel approach: transforming existing educational materials into a format that resonates with today's digitally native students.
ScrollEd has developed an application that re-imagines static text documents, including PDFs and textbooks, into a vertical feed akin to popular social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. This innovative feed utilizes AI to generate content in various formats, such as video, audio, text summaries, and interactive quizzes. Users can scroll through topics vertically, with the option to delve deeper into a subject by swiping sideways, culminating in a quiz to test comprehension.
Co-founder Utsav Gupta explained that the younger generation's preference for short-form, vertical content presents a challenge for traditional educational media. ScrollEd's mission is to "meet them where they are," adapting learning materials to these preferred formats. Gupta, who co-founded the company this year with his wife Rebecca Neff, aims to make the process of deepening understanding as seamless as navigating to the next piece of content.
The startup is targeting educational institutions, corporate training programs, and individual learners seeking more engaging ways to consume information. ScrollEd plans to launch its consumer-facing application at the TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield 200 competition, with aspirations to "disrupt" social media and short-form content. The company operates on a freemium model, offering a free tier for consumers alongside a paid "ScrollEd Pro" subscription and institutional licenses.
Looking ahead, ScrollEd will prioritize its consumer launch, expanding its library of educational content, and refining its source-checking workflow. The company is also developing pilots for institutions and building the infrastructure necessary to enable personalized learning assessments. Gupta envisions the platform evolving into a social network that prioritizes user well-being and effective learning.
