Summary
- Schlage Sense Pro uses UWB for hands-free unlocking with Apple devices.
- The Sense Pro lacks a fingerprint sensor and uses AA batteries.
- Aqara U400 offers similar UWB features for $130 less.
Schlage has released the Sense Pro smart lock, featuring ultra-wideband (UWB) for hands-free unlocking with compatible Apple devices. Installation is straightforward, taking about ten minutes, and the lock supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. UWB functionality requires a Thread border router.
The Sense Pro boasts a clean aesthetic and a touch-based keypad. However, it lacks a fingerprint sensor and uses replaceable AA batteries, which Schlage estimates will last up to six months. A USB-C port offers a backup power option.
While the Sense Pro offers a keyless design, its main competitor, the Aqara U400, provides similar UWB features for $130 less. The U400 also includes a fingerprint sensor and a physical keyhole, making it a more versatile and budget-friendly option for a broader range of users.
