Satechi has officially launched its highly anticipated Thunderbolt 5 CubeDock, blending powerful functionality with an aesthetically pleasing design. Initially showcased at CES earlier this year, this compact device is constructed from an all-aluminum chassis, setting it apart from utilitarian docking stations.
The CubeDock is equipped with a range of ports, including one upstream and three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports. For convenient access, it features a high-speed USB-A and a USB-C port on the front, capable of delivering 30W of power. Additionally, users will find full-size SD and microSD card readers, a headphone/microphone combo jack, and an easily accessible power button with LED lighting.
Around the back, the dock offers further connectivity with another pair of high-speed USB-A and USB-C ports, and a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port for fast wired networking. A significant feature is the internal SSD slot that supports various M.2 SSD sizes, accompanied by thermal pads to manage heat effectively.
While the CubeDock performs exceptionally well, its refresh rate is capped at 60Hz on macOS, a limitation attributed to Apple's display drivers, though it can achieve up to 144Hz on Windows.
