Samsung Wallet has introduced a new feature called Samsung ID with CLEAR, offering U.S. passport holders a free digital identification option on compatible Galaxy smartphones. This digital ID, verified by CLEAR, can be used at more than 250 TSA checkpoints that support digital ID verification, aiming to simplify airport travel.
Users can add their digital ID by opening Samsung Wallet, navigating to Digital IDs, and selecting Samsung ID with CLEAR. The process involves CLEAR verifying U.S. passports before the digital ID is stored on the user's phone. While this offers convenience, travelers must continue to carry their physical passport or REAL ID-compliant document as a backup for checkpoints not equipped with compatible readers.
Beyond TSA checkpoints, Samsung Wallet's integration with CLEAR also supports age verification for entry into venues like BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. Samsung emphasizes security, noting the feature requires a verified Samsung account and utilizes Samsung Knox for encryption. Users are advised to maintain strong security practices, including updating their devices and enabling two-step verification, to protect their digital credentials.
