Samsung S26 Ultra: Color Depth Promise Fades
4 Mar
Summary
- Samsung confirmed the S26 Ultra uses an 8-bit panel, not 10-bit.
- 10-bit panels offer over a billion colors, 8-bit have 16 million.
- The screen upgrade was mistakenly advertised by Samsung.

Samsung has clarified that its Galaxy S26 Ultra will not feature the previously suggested 10-bit display panel. Following its Unpacked event where the Galaxy S26 series was revealed, Samsung confirmed to media outlets that all devices in the S26 line utilize an 8-bit panel.
Earlier reports, stemming from Samsung's own briefings to select press, indicated a 10-bit panel would be used for enhanced color depth. A 10-bit panel supports over a billion colors per pixel, significantly more than the 16 million colors offered by an 8-bit panel. This distinction can impact the fluidity of color gradients.
