Samsung TriFold Production Ends Abruptly
16 Mar
Summary
- Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold production may have ceased in late January.
- The phone was intended as a tech showcase, not a high-volume seller.
- Rising component costs impact profitability for Samsung's mobile division.

Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold, launched in the US in late January, is reportedly no longer in production. Sources indicate that Samsung has finished manufacturing the device and is now focused on selling its current inventory. This decision comes just months after the phone's initial release.
The Korean outlet Donga reports that industry insiders view the TriFold's short production cycle as intentional. Samsung's goal was reportedly to demonstrate its triple-folding technology in a consumer product, rather than to achieve significant sales figures.
Despite its innovative design, the Galaxy Z TriFold did not generate substantial profit due to high and increasing production costs, exacerbated by a global memory shortage. This limited financial success is a key factor in the decision to end production.
Samsung appears to have leveraged the TriFold to reinforce its position as a leader in foldable smartphone technology. As competitors rapidly advance, Samsung aims to maintain its innovative edge. The company has not yet confirmed plans for a second-generation TriFold, with executives stating decisions are pending.
Future foldable releases from Samsung are expected to include the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, slated for release from July onwards. Rumors also suggest an additional foldable line featuring a book-style wide-folding handset. Meanwhile, Samsung's Galaxy S26 series has seen success, but rising industry-wide costs are pressuring the mobile division, leading to an 'emergency management regime.'
