24 Jul
Summary
- New anti-reflective coating enhances screen visibility outdoors.
- Fold 8 Ultra features a brighter 3,000-nit display.
- Battery capacity increased to 5,000 mAh with faster charging.

Samsung's recent Galaxy Unpacked event introduced three new folding phones, highlighted by the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the successor to last year's Fold 7. The Fold 8 Ultra showcases a refined design, featuring a slimmer profile and improved hinge mechanics for a smoother unfolding experience. A standout upgrade is the anti-reflective coating on its 8-inch inner AMOLED display, which also achieves a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, significantly enhancing outdoor visibility compared to the Fold 7's 2,600 nits.
Performance sees an upgrade with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip in the Fold 8 Ultra, while both models offer up to 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM. Battery life is enhanced by a new 5,000 mAh silicon-carbon anode battery, supporting 45-watt fast wired charging. Camera improvements include a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor on the Fold 8 Ultra, complementing its 200-megapixel main camera. Both devices continue to support Samsung's Galaxy AI features and Gemini access, with the Fold 8 Ultra promising seven years of software updates.
