Russian Algorithm Slashes Drone Energy Use by a Third
25 Mar
Summary
- New algorithm reduces drone energy consumption by one third.
- Smart navigation recalculates routes in real-time considering weather.
- The system self-learns and adapts to different drone types and terrains.

A significant advancement in drone technology has been achieved by the Russian youth engineering team Galaxy Digital. They have developed an innovative algorithm that promises to reduce drone energy consumption by a substantial one-third. This breakthrough was accomplished during their training at Robosoft company, as part of the federal project Personnel for Unmanned Aircraft Systems, with University 2035 acting as the project operator.
The core of this energy-saving solution lies in its smart navigation capabilities. The control program, powered by the new algorithm, efficiently plots the most optimal flight path. Crucially, it can instantly recalculate this route in real-time if external factors, such as changing weather conditions including wind strength, necessitate a longer path. This dynamic adjustment ensures maximum energy efficiency even in variable environments.
Further enhancing its utility, the drone is controlled by domestic software and possesses the ability to navigate around obstacles autonomously. In the event of a lost connection with the operator, the drone is programmed to safely land itself. The algorithm’s ability to self-learn while operating in a virtual environment means it can effectively adapt to different types of unmanned aerial vehicles and diverse terrains, making it a versatile solution for future drone operations.
