Russia Launches Second Satellite Batch for New Comms
20 Jul
Summary
- Second batch of satellites launched on July 19 for new communication services.
- Spacecraft feature 5G NTN architecture and laser communication terminals.
- Bureau 1440 successfully deployed its first 16 satellites in late March.

Russia's Bureau 1440, part of 'X Holding,' continues to expand its low-orbit satellite constellation aimed at delivering new-generation communication services. The second package of these spacecraft was successfully launched on July 19 and has reached its support orbit. Following successful separation from the carrier rocket, the constellation is now managed by Bureau 1440 Mission Control. The satellites will proceed to their target orbit after initial checks and commissioning are finalized.
This expansion builds upon the successful launch of the initial 16 satellites in late March, which form the Rassvet constellation. These satellites are equipped with advanced technology, including a communication system based on 5G NTN architecture. They also feature an upgraded power supply system, next-generation inter-satellite laser communication terminals, and a plasma propulsion system.
