A new project named Virtual Mac on iPad enables users to run the full macOS operating system on compatible iPads. This is achieved through a complex process that bypasses Apple's intended use of its devices. The project is only accessible to those who have jailbroken their iPads and are running specific, older versions of iPadOS, as a critical exploit was patched in later releases.

Even after a successful installation, users face significant drawbacks. Logging into an Apple ID is not possible on this unofficial port, restricting access to vital services like iCloud and Find My. Furthermore, macOS is designed for larger screens and different input methods than those optimized for iPadOS, creating a suboptimal user experience.

While the port allows access to Mac-exclusive applications such as Xcode and Terminal, the substantial effort required makes it impractical for most. The benefits, such as increased portability for macOS, are arguably outweighed by the complexity and limitations, especially considering Apple's own portable MacBooks and features like Sidecar.
