Rosatom Secures Nuclear Fuel Contract for Vietnam's Research Reactor

In November 2025, Rosatom's TVEL Fuel Company reported that it has fulfilled a contract to supply nuclear fuel to the reactor of the Nuclear Research Institute in Dalat, Vietnam. The fuel assemblies were manufactured at Rosatom's Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant in Siberia.

This latest delivery of Russian nuclear fuel is set to provide reliable operation of the Dalat research reactor through the 2030s. The previous fuel supply for this facility was made in December 2010, as nuclear fuel for research reactors is typically provided in larger, less frequent shipments compared to commercial nuclear power plants.

The nuclear fuel supply to the Dalat reactor is part of the Russia-Vietnam Interdepartmental Roadmap for Developing Nuclear Technologies up to 2030. This agreement, signed in May 2025 by Rosatom's CEO and Vietnam's Minister of Science and Technology, also covers plans for building a center for nuclear science and technology in Vietnam, as well as the country's participation in an international research reactor consortium.

The Dalat research reactor has been operating since 1984, after replacing an earlier American-designed facility. Over its four decades of operation, the reactor has safely generated over 70,000 hours of power, supporting Vietnam's nuclear research, radioisotope production, and other applications across various industries.
