Summary
- Figure retired its humanoid robots by melting them in molten steel.
- A steel foundry in Finland facilitated the robots' destruction.
- Metal bars from the robots are now available for purchase.

AI robotics company Figure recently decommissioned its Figure 02 humanoid robots. Citing that the robots were no longer maintainable, Figure opted for complete destruction to safeguard their proprietary technology.
The company decided to melt the robots in molten metal, a method famously depicted in the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day. This decision was partly inspired by a suggestion from Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Finding a suitable facility proved challenging, as many US and Mexican foundries declined the request. However, a steel foundry in Imatra, Finland, agreed to the procedure.
Figure trained the robots to jump autonomously into a 75-ton electric arc furnace. The process, completed within 24 hours and six melts, occurred under extreme heat and electromagnetic fields.
As a unique memento, Figure is now offering metal bars derived from the melted robots. These exclusive items are priced between $500 and $1,900.
