Robot Artist Designs Homes for Moon and Mars

Ai-Da Robot, the world's first humanoid robot artist, has made history by designing a building concept, 'Ai-Da: Space Pod,' intended for future bases on the Moon and Mars. This modular housing concept is currently featured in the 'I'm not a robot' exhibition at the Utzon Center in Denmark, which runs through October. The exhibition explores the growing creative capacity of machines, showcasing Ai-Da's drawings, paintings, and architectural visions.

Developed in Oxford and built in 2019, Ai-Da utilizes camera eyes, AI algorithms, and a robotic arm to create art and now, architectural designs. Her creator, Aidan Meller, explains that 'Ai-Da: Space Pod' anticipates a future where intelligent buildings respond to occupants' needs. The modular units can connect via corridors, offering a vision for shared residential environments that could be built on Earth as prototypes or adapted for extraterrestrial bases.

The exhibition aims to provoke reflection on technology's rapid advancement and its ethical implications. Ai-Da's work, particularly in designing spaces for humans and robots, prompts critical questions about control, ethics, and accountability in fields like architecture. As AI's agency increases, its influence on shaping daily life through housing and shared spaces becomes increasingly unavoidable, blurring the lines between human and machine.
