Road Ministry Mandates NHAI and Developers to Launch YouTube Channels for Highway Projects

As of October 30th, 2025, the road transport ministry has taken a significant step to enhance transparency and public engagement in highway projects. The ministry has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and highway developers to create their own YouTube channels and regularly upload videos of ongoing projects.

This first-of-its-kind initiative aims to leverage citizen feedback and insights to improve the construction process. According to the road transport secretary, V Umashankar, the ministry has observed that independent YouTubers often provide valuable information and updates about project progress and issues. The ministry now plans to make video uploads a mandatory part of the project contract documents.

Addressing a CII event, Umashankar emphasized the importance of public participation, stating, "We are working to make the uploading of videos a part of the project contract document." Additionally, road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari has instructed officials to install hoardings with QR codes along highways, allowing commuters to access details of the contractors and officials in charge, including their contact information.

Gadkari further stressed the need for ownership, sincerity, and a positive approach in road construction, stating, "From A to Z in road construction, we need ownership, sincerity, and a positive approach. Roads must be good, and they must stay good. Signboards should be put up clearly stating who is responsible."
