Reddit Limits Old Reddit Access Further
1 Oct
Summary
- New login requirements will soon restrict Old Reddit access.
- This aims to reduce scraping and automated traffic on the site.
- Moderators will retain unrestricted access to Old Reddit.
Reddit is set to further restrict access to its Old Reddit interface, the classic version preferred by many long-time users. As of 2026-10-01T00:58:56+00:00, users will need to have logged into the site within the past six months to access Old.Reddit.com. This is an extension of a July policy change that required all users to be logged in.
The company states these measures are primarily intended to reduce automated traffic and scraping, which it identifies as major sources of abuse. Despite these restrictions, moderators will continue to have full access to Old Reddit, regardless of their recent login activity, as long as they are logged in.
Reddit spokesperson Rosa Kim has indicated that these changes are not a precursor to shutting down Old Reddit but rather a method to ensure its availability for genuine users. The platform is reportedly working on the future of Old Reddit, with CEO Steve Huffman having previously suggested in 2025 that it would remain online as long as it was used. However, recent statements imply a shift towards modernization and potential access limitations.
