Raspberry Pi Prices Soar Amid Memory Chip Crunch
5 Feb
Summary
- LPDDR4 memory costs have more than doubled, impacting Raspberry Pi 4 and 5.
- Higher-end Raspberry Pi 5 configurations now exceed $200.
- Entry-level and older Raspberry Pi models remain unchanged.

Recent price adjustments for Raspberry Pi hardware have seen significant increases, particularly for models with higher RAM configurations. The escalating cost of LPDDR4 memory components, some of which have more than doubled in price within a single quarter, is directly linked to the surging demand for memory by large-scale AI infrastructure. This competition for fabrication capacity means that higher-end Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 boards, compute modules, and keyboard computers are now more expensive.
Specifically, 4GB RAM models have seen a $15 price hike, while 8GB versions have increased by $30, and 16GB systems face a substantial $60 rise. Consequently, some Raspberry Pi 5 configurations now surpass the $200 mark, a previously unprecedented price point for the product line. Fortunately, entry-level models with 1GB of RAM and older boards like the Raspberry Pi Zero and 3, which use LPDDR2 memory, remain unaffected by these price changes.
