RAM Prices Surge: Raspberry Pi Now Costly
4 Feb
Summary
- DDR5 memory price hikes have reportedly stalled in Germany.
- Analyst firms predict further DRAM pricing increases.
- Raspberry Pi models with more RAM have increased by $60.

Reports indicate a potential stall in the dramatic price increases for DDR5 memory, with German retailers showing only a marginal 0.1% rise in the past month. This contrasts sharply with previous months, which saw surges of 49%, 93%, and 27%. However, this positive trend may be short-lived, as broader industry analysis suggests further price hikes are imminent.
Analyst firm TrendForce predicts a likely increase of 50% or more in DRAM pricing for the first quarter of 2026. This continuing memory cost crisis is having a ripple effect across various computing products. The compact and typically affordable Raspberry Pi computer board is the latest victim, with its price escalating due to the rising cost of system memory.
Specifically, Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 models equipped with more than 2GB of RAM have experienced significant price jumps. The flagship Raspberry Pi 5, especially its 16GB variant, has increased by $60, bringing its current price to $205, which is approximately 70% higher than its initial launch price.
