Rabbit OS3: AI agent on any screen

Rabbit, two years after introducing its AI hardware, has launched OS3, a cross-platform agentic operating system. This new software is accessible through desktop browsers, Telegram, and iMessage, allowing it to function on existing devices rather than requiring dedicated hardware. The company's previous R1 gadget, released in early 2026, garnered mixed reviews for its AI capabilities. Jesse Lyu, Rabbit's CEO, views the R1's monetary performance positively, noting significant unit sales with low return rates and healthy hardware margins, despite resource constraints compared to larger AI studios. Facing financial strain around early 2026, Rabbit secured additional funding and focused on software development for the R1, deploying approximately 50 updates over the past year and a half.

OS3 is pitched as an open, cloud-based system with a local agent node for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It leverages Rabbit's DLAM technology for local software task execution and code debugging. The platform supports up to five linked machines, intelligently assigning tasks to the most suitable device. Users interact via a continuous chat stream, described as a 'brain dump' interface, where intents are processed to coordinate models and tools. Rabbit employs a 'Bring Your Own Key' (BYOK) strategy, meaning users supply their own API keys from providers like OpenAI or Anthropic, avoiding subscription fees. Rabbit has stated that the local agent does not store or sell user data, though prompts for model reasoning pass through Rabbit's servers to the chosen AI provider.
