- Qualcomm is developing over 40 AI wearable devices.
- New Snapdragon Reality Elite boosts performance for AI.
- START toolkit aids hardware makers in AI device creation.

Qualcomm's CEO, Cristiano Amon, has stated the company is actively developing over 40 distinct AI wearable devices, including jewelry, earbuds with cameras, and smartwatches. This strategic focus signifies Qualcomm's bet that future computing platforms will shift away from smartphones.
To power this transition, Qualcomm has launched Snapdragon Reality Elite, a platform designed for mixed reality glasses with enhanced on-device AI capabilities. They also introduced the Scalable Turnkey AI-Ready Toolkit (START) to accelerate the development of AI-ready hardware, beginning with smart glasses.
Snapdragon Reality Elite offers substantial performance improvements, including up to 60% better GPU and 160% better NPU performance compared to previous platforms. This enables faster AI interactions and supports higher resolutions for a more immersive visual experience in devices like VST and OST headsets.
The START toolkit provides a comprehensive solution for hardware makers, including AR chips, software, and reference designs for various wearable form factors. Partners like Inspecs and O'Neill are set to utilize this program to bring new AI-powered eyewear to market.
Amon emphasized that these innovations are driven by the growing need for devices that constantly gather real-world data to power AI agents. Qualcomm positions itself as the essential silicon provider for the post-smartphone era, aiming to lower barriers for new entrants with its development tools.
