The Odisha government has partnered with IIT Bhubaneswar to develop a sophisticated technical queue system for the Puri Jagannath temple. This collaboration focuses on enhancing crowd management through the introduction of elevated ramps within the Nata Mandap and Jagamohan areas.
The revised plan replaces an earlier concept of wooden ramps, with IIT Bhubaneswar now working on a pilot model to refine the design. The aim is to create 5 to 6 lanes of elevated ramps that will raise devotees' eye level, providing clearer views of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.
Temple authorities anticipate that the new system will significantly improve the spiritual experience by easing congestion and disorder. The project is expected to allow the system to manage between 8,000 to 10,000 devotees each hour, addressing issues of overcrowding during major festivals.
