Summary
- New SanDisk Optimus GX Pro 850P SSDs for PS5 are significantly overpriced.
- The 8TB model is priced at $2,960, down from $3,700.
- This price surge reflects a broader trend of rising gaming hardware costs.
SanDisk has introduced new Optimus GX Pro 850P NVMe SSDs, officially licensed for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro consoles. These drives are available in multiple capacities, with the 8TB model notably priced at $2,960, a significant reduction from its original $3,700 price tag. This pricing strategy places the storage solution at over three times the cost of a PS5 Pro. Even the 2TB variant exceeds the price of a standard PS5.
The Optimus GX Pro 850P features PCIe 4.0 with Read/Write speeds of 7,300/6,300MB/s and includes a heatsink. These specifications are closely aligned with previous WD_Black SN850X models. The current high prices are occurring amidst a global memory crisis, exacerbating the cost of components. This situation is part of a larger trend affecting various gaming hardware manufacturers.
