Proton VPN has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for spring and summer, prioritizing enhanced speed, security, and user privacy. Central to these upgrades is the improved WireGuard protocol, designed to bolster connection speeds and anticensorship capabilities, while also laying the groundwork for future post-quantum encryption. This revamped protocol is now available for Android and Windows users, with other platforms to follow.
The company is also introducing a redesigned Linux application to ensure a consistent user experience across all devices. This new version will incorporate the Stealth protocol, making VPN detection more difficult for restrictive entities. Proton VPN is significantly expanding its server network, now boasting over 20,000 servers across 145 countries, including recent additions like Gabon, Haiti, and Lebanon.
These advancements are positioned to address the escalating challenges of government censorship and online privacy. Product lead Antonio Cesarano emphasized that the roadmap's core objective is to simplify privacy tools and enhance reliability. Furthermore, Proton VPN is introducing expanded administrative controls for business clients, including web filtering and always-on VPN policies, to better manage employee access and security within organizations.
