Proton's Lumo 2.0: AI Chatbot Boosts Privacy and Speed

Proton has unveiled Lumo 2.0, a substantially updated version of its AI chatbot, marking its most significant change since its initial release in 2025. Designed as a privacy-first alternative, Lumo 2.0 focuses on enhancing security and user responsiveness.

The new Lumo 2.0 boasts a 127% improvement in performance metrics like speed and reasoning, as measured by the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index. It introduces distinct modes for rapid or in-depth responses and now integrates image processing with text, all under strong encryption standards.

Privacy remains a core tenet, with Lumo 2.0 operating on Proton's European infrastructure and protected by stringent Swiss privacy laws. The chatbot employs zero-access encryption, ensuring that even Proton cannot access user data. A Ghost mode allows conversations to disappear automatically, and user data is not used for AI training.

Functionality has also been expanded with improved web search capabilities, providing live results and citations to minimize errors. Businesses may benefit from enhanced contextual memory, dedicated project workspaces, and custom persona creation for tailored assistance.
