- The turbine can be expanded with multiple units or solar panels for more power.

A new portable wind turbine, the Ventyra R1, is being crowdfunded on Kickstarter, extending the trend of DIY and off-grid energy solutions. This device is compact enough to fit into a backpack, aiming to provide power for gadgets wherever your travels take you, provided there is sufficient wind.
The Ventyra R1 boasts a 50W power output with a 75W peak load and supports 12V DC. It requires a minimal wind speed of 6.7 mph to begin operation. The integrated power hub allows for direct connection of devices, though charging a phone at full speed would take approximately 35 minutes. For extended use or varying conditions, charging a power bank is recommended.
The turbine package includes a tripod stand, carry bag, and ground stakes for stability. It is marketed for remote adventures but can also be set up on a balcony as an alternative power source. Multiple R1 units can be connected to a single power hub for increased energy capture, and solar panels can also be integrated into the system.
The design features an automatic wind alignment system using a tail vane, simplifying setup. While its dimensions are 52 cm long with 38 cm rotors, its weatherproofing and sturdiness in high winds are not detailed. The Kickstarter campaign has surpassed its initial $1,500 goal, with over $140,000 pledged by 661 backers. Early bird pricing starts at $179, with shipping scheduled for December.
