Polestar 3 Now a Home Power Source in CA

Polestar has introduced bi-directional charging for its Polestar 3 electric vehicles, initially available to owners in California. This technology enables the car's battery to serve as a power source for homes or contribute to the energy grid, offering a new dimension of utility for EV owners. The feature operates using direct current and is compatible with the 400 Volt electrical architecture of the Polestar 3.

In collaboration with home energy company dcbel, Polestar is facilitating access to this capability through California Energy Commission programs. This partnership allows Polestar 3 customers to install "home energy stations" that manage various clean energy sources. Polestar estimates that users of dcbel's Ara system could reduce their annual charging expenses by as much as $1,300 and gain a reliable energy backup for up to ten days during blackouts.

This bi-directional charging capability is not new to the EV market, having been featured in models like the Ford F-150 Lightning, GM's EV lineup, and the Nissan Leaf. While this marks Polestar's first US offering of the feature, the company previously launched a similar service in Germany. Polestar has expressed its commitment to further developing these capabilities for future models.
