- The satellite will process geospatial intelligence directly from space.
- This technology aims to overcome constraints of ground-based data centers.

Indian hyperspectral imaging startup Pixxel is advancing space infrastructure with plans for a pathfinder satellite to test orbital data center technology. This demonstrator, expected to launch before the end of 2026, will process geospatial intelligence directly in orbit.
The satellite will feature data center-class processors for AI training and inference, utilizing onboard language models provided by partner Sarvam. This initiative seeks to bypass the constraints of ground-based data centers, such as energy and land limitations.
Pixxel's move aligns with a growing trend in space, with major players also exploring orbital computing. The pathfinder will join Pixxel's existing constellation of six Firefly imaging satellites, enhancing their ability to deliver actionable intelligence for various clients.
