Pixel Update: Scam Alerts Expand, Harry Potter Theme Arrives

Google has released a new feature drop for Pixel phones, introducing an enhanced AI-powered scam detection system. This safety feature, which performs on-device scanning for fraudulent messages, now functions within chat applications beyond Google's Messages, provided they use the Gboard keyboard. This upgrade is available on Pixel devices dating back to the Pixel 6 model from 2021.

The scam detection feature is also being rolled out to additional countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Mexico, Japan, and Singapore. Further enhancements include updated home-screen widgets for VIP contacts, allowing single-tap calls or texts and easier contact switching. These additions are also compatible with Pixel 6 and newer.

For entertainment, Pixel phones will receive an optional Harry Potter theme pack, featuring unique wallpaper, icons, and audio effects inspired by the audiobooks. This pack comes with a complimentary two-month subscription to Audible. Smartwatch users will also benefit from interface refinements, with new one-handed pinch gestures for the notification tray on Pixel Watch 3 and improved raise-to-talk gestures on newer models.
