Papa Johns has initiated a drone delivery pilot program in Charlotte, North Carolina, offering a novel approach to fast-food delivery. This collaboration with Wing, a Google-owned drone company, is the first of its kind for Wing with a national restaurant chain.
Currently, the service allows select customers near Sun Valley Commons mall in Indian Trail to order three new toasted sandwich options via drone. These include the Philly Cheesesteak, Chicken Bacon Ranch, and Steak & Mushroom.
Wing's CEO explained that pizza delivery via drone is challenging due to the large, non-aerodynamic nature of pizza boxes. However, Wing and Papa Johns are reportedly working on solutions to overcome these operational hurdles, hinting at future aerial pizza deliveries.
Future plans involve integrating Wing's technology into the Papa Johns app, simplifying access to drone deliveries. The company also intends to incorporate these features into Lou AI, Papa Johns' digital assistant tool, further streamlining the ordering process for various customer needs.
