Summary
- Opera now has Paste Protect to block clipboard malware.
- ClickFix attacks use fake verification to steal data.
- The feature warns users and blocks malicious code.
Opera has rolled out a new safety feature called Paste Protect, offering native defense against "ClickFix" clipboard attacks. These cyberattacks, which accounted for over half of malware-loading attacks in 2025, often disguise themselves as verification prompts.
ClickFix attacks trick users into copying malicious code into their clipboard, frequently through fake Captcha resolutions. This code can then instruct the computer to download and execute malware, such as Lumma Stealer, compromising passwords and personal data.
Paste Protect is designed to detect and block these malicious scripts across Windows, macOS, and Linux. It warns users of the attempted attack, flags the site, and displays the first 120 characters of the command. The feature is enabled by default but can be managed in the browser's settings.
