On November 4, 2025, OpenAI, the AI startup behind the popular ChatGPT-5 model, announced a significant development for Indian users. The company is making its ChatGPT-5 Go Plan available for free to users in India for a period of one year.
The ChatGPT-5 Go Plan, which typically costs ₹399, provides users with faster and more capable AI responses compared to the basic free plan. Additionally, the Go Plan offers expanded features, including the ability to create images, upload files, generate longer conversations, and analyze documents. Users also gain access to memory capabilities, allowing the chatbot to recall previous interactions and provide more personalized answers over time.
This move by OpenAI is being hailed as a strategic shift in the company's approach towards the Indian market. Prior to this announcement, OpenAI had launched the ChatGPT-5 Go Plan to cater to the growing user base of the AI model in India. Now, by making this plan freely available for a year, the company aims to make advanced AI tools accessible to a wider audience in the country.
Nick Turley, OpenAI's Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, stated that the decision is part of the company's efforts to "make advanced AI tools available to a wider audience." Ahead of OpenAI's first DevDay Exchange event in India, this move is expected to help more people across the country easily access and benefit from the capabilities of ChatGPT-5.
