24 Feb
Summary
- Businesses have not achieved AI adoption at scale yet.
- OpenAI launched Frontier to help enterprises build and manage agents.
- India is OpenAI's second-largest user base for ChatGPT.

OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap stated that businesses have yet to achieve widespread adoption of artificial intelligence at scale. He highlighted this observation as a key inspiration behind the recent launch of OpenAI Frontier, a platform designed for enterprises to construct and manage AI agents.
Lightcap explained that while powerful AI tools exist for individual use, large, complex organizations face significant hurdles in integrating AI into their existing business processes and systems. He also mentioned that despite predictions of AI agents replacing traditional software, many companies, including OpenAI itself, continue to rely heavily on existing enterprise solutions like Slack.
OpenAI has recently expanded its focus on the Indian market, revealing it as the second-largest base for ChatGPT users globally, with over 100 million weekly users. The company sees significant potential in India, particularly with the growing adoption of voice technology, which enhances accessibility. OpenAI is also establishing new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru to bolster its presence.
Addressing concerns about job displacement due to AI automation, particularly in India's IT sector, Lightcap acknowledged that jobs will inevitably evolve. He emphasized that this transformation is a natural part of economic cycles and that the company aims to approach these changes with empathy.
