29 Sep
Summary
- Codex now offers reusable cloud environments accessible from any device.
- Developers can control Codex tasks using voice commands via its CLI.
- New security tools scan repositories and suggest fixes automatically.
OpenAI announced major upgrades to its software engineering agent, Codex, at its recent Dev Day. Developers can now leverage reusable cloud development environments, making Codex accessible and functional from any device, including phones and remote cloud instances. These environments are designed for faster task initiation and provide shared team workspaces with approved settings.
The Codex CLI has been updated to accept voice commands, allowing developers to direct tasks using speech. A new '/agents' view helps manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Enhancements also include improved prompt editing, session resumption, and a cleaner terminal interface for easier readability during long sessions.
Codex is integrated into ChatGPT for code reviews, offering summaries and issue detection before GitHub or GitLab submissions. Automated code reviews are also available, providing initial feedback while users are away. The new Codex Security Cloud offers tools to secure infrastructure by scanning repositories on demand or schedule, investigating findings, and preparing cloud-based fixes.
Further API updates include a new Decisions API for real-time choices using the Luna model and an improved Agents API supporting computer use and AWS integration through Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents.
