OpenAI's Codex Gets Adorable AI Pets!

OpenAI's coding assistant, Codex, has been enhanced with the addition of optional AI-generated pets. These animated companions float as an overlay, providing developers with visual cues about Codex's current tasks and needs. The feature allows users to monitor the active coding thread without interrupting their workflow or switching applications.

Developers can summon a selection of eight built-in pets using the '/pet' command. For further personalization, a '/hatch' command enables users to generate their own unique companions with AI assistance, with early adopters already sharing creative options like animated goblins and even virtual recreations of Microsoft's Clippy. These pets are now accessible on both Windows and macOS versions of Codex. Additionally, OpenAI is offering a limited-time promotion of 30 days of ChatGPT Pro with the acquisition of ten favorite generated companions.
