6 Feb
Summary
- New OneDrive Agents allow users to query up to 20 documents simultaneously.
- Agents bundle multiple files into a single .agent file for shared context.
- This feature requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and is web-based.

Microsoft has announced the general availability of OneDrive Agents, a new feature designed to enhance productivity within Microsoft 365 applications. This innovative tool allows users to interact with multiple documents simultaneously, moving beyond the traditional one-file-at-a-time workflow.
Users can now bundle up to 20 files into a single agent, which is then saved as a .agent file within OneDrive. This consolidated agent possesses an understanding of the entire set of documents, including project plans, specifications, meeting notes, research materials, and presentations.
These agents are capable of performing typical AI functions such as summarizing information, answering specific questions, and identifying crucial details like deadlines. The key differentiator is their ability to maintain context across numerous OneDrive documents, rather than being limited to a single file.
The OneDrive agentic upgrade is accessible to individuals with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license who are using OneDrive on the web. It is currently unclear if this feature will be extended to mobile or desktop clients in the future.
As .agent files are treated like regular files, users can easily share agents with colleagues. This facilitates seamless collaboration, ensuring everyone works from the same context and information. Users can also update agents by adding or removing files or refining instructions to reflect the latest project developments.
Microsoft is actively soliciting user feedback to guide the future development of OneDrive Agents, indicating that the feature is considered a work in progress with ongoing enhancements planned.
