OLED Ally X: Standalone Version Confirmed!

Asus will release a standalone version of its OLED Ally X handheld gaming device, as confirmed by a company spokesperson. Initially, the device was expected to be sold only as part of an expensive bundle with AR glasses. This new standalone option offers gamers a refined handheld experience, potentially rivaling competitors like the MSI Claw 8 EX. The 7.4-inch OLED display is a key highlight, offering exceptional clarity, a bright panel, and an anti-glare cover that outperforms other handheld screens, even those with larger displays. The screen's 1080p resolution, combined with its clarity and brightness, makes it stand out.

The design of the OLED Ally X prioritizes comfort, featuring plush rubberized grips and satisfyingly flush ABXY face buttons. An innovative transforming D-pad, which can switch between eight-way and four-way input, has been praised for its precision, particularly in games requiring exact diagonal movements. While performance benchmarks are pending, initial comparisons suggest the Ally X20 offers competitive gameplay, though the MSI Claw 8 EX shows higher frame rates in certain demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Returnal. However, the Ally X20's variable refresh rate screen and potentially more stable driver performance could offer a smoother visual experience.

The OLED Ally X is expected to be more expensive than the current $1,000 Xbox Ally X due to market conditions, making it a premium option for those seeking the best handheld experience regardless of price. The improved cooling system also results in quieter operation and less heat buildup during extended gaming sessions. The device aims to provide a comfortable and refined user experience, positioning itself as a top-tier choice for dedicated gamers.
