Nvidia Funds $105B OpenAI Data Center in Ohio

Nvidia announced on Monday an agreement to provide up to $105 billion in financing for a colossal data center in Ohio, which will be leased to OpenAI. This commitment represents one of the largest investments by Nvidia to support artificial intelligence labs requiring substantial computing power. The facility is expected to cost as much as $500 billion and will provide OpenAI with 8 gigawatts of computing capacity, enough to power approximately six million U.S. households.

OpenAI has secured a 20-year lease for the Ohio site, with capacity expected to become available starting in 2028. Nvidia's financing will cover 4.25 gigawatts of this capacity. This deal is part of a broader trend where AI startups gain access to necessary computing resources through complex arrangements with chipmakers and cloud providers. Nvidia also revealed a $1.5 billion investment in SB Energy, the builder and operator of the Ohio data center.
