Nvidia has officially launched a beta version of its native GeForce Now application for Linux users, fulfilling a highly anticipated request. The game-streaming platform's Linux app is distributed as a 12MB .bin file and primarily supports Ubuntu 24.04 or later. Nvidia has indicated that Flatpak installation may extend compatibility to other Linux distributions.
This new native app aims to provide an experience comparable to the existing Windows and macOS versions. While it supports high resolutions up to 5K and 120 frames per second, the current beta version has some limitations. Users should note the absence of HDR support, racing wheel and flight control compatibility, and video recording functionality.
The release comes at a time when Nvidia's PC graphics cards are experiencing significant price hikes. GeForce Now offers an alternative for gaming, though optimal performance requires a monthly subscription ranging from $9.99 to $19.99, alongside a stable internet connection. A free tier is available with one-hour session limits.
