Nvidia Exec: AI Compute Costs More Than People
30 Apr
Summary
- Nvidia VP states compute costs exceed employee costs for his team.
- CEO Jensen Huang believes AI accelerates workflows and creates jobs.
- Gen Z workers express significant concern about AI job displacement.

Despite widespread concerns about artificial intelligence replacing human workers, a senior executive at Nvidia has indicated that the cost of AI compute currently exceeds the expense of human employees. Bryan Catanzaro, vice president of applied deep learning at Nvidia, noted that for his team, compute expenses are higher than personnel costs.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has been actively working to allay these fears. He believes AI is not leading to job losses but rather is accelerating workflows and allowing human workers to focus on more purposeful tasks. Huang recently stated that AI is not destroying jobs, but rather changing them.
However, these reassurances may not fully alleviate anxieties, especially among younger workers. Research indicates that Gen Z employees are particularly concerned about AI displacing them from entry-level positions. Reports from Forrester and Goldman Sachs also suggest that human apprehension remains a significant barrier to AI adoption in the workplace.
