The company claims this update doubles the performance of the AI model, making it ten times more performant than its initial preview in March 2026. This advancement also reduces VRAM usage by 24% and 4K VRAM usage by 20%, resulting in half the GPU overhead compared to the September launch version.
These optimizations translate to frame rate increases of 30% to 40% in testing, according to Nvidia's benchmarks in NBA 2K27. The new DLSS 5 model is available starting October 16th for RTX 5000 GPUs, RTX Spark laptops, and the GeForce Now streaming service. Additionally, DLSS 5 will be integrated into Hogwarts Legacy on November 5th and Where Winds Meet in the near future.
Nvidia is also introducing a new performance mode for frame generation, dubbed 'Preset C' in the Nvidia app. This feature utilizes a faster algorithm to potentially boost frame rates by up to 35% on an RTX 5060. DLSS 5 is also coming to RTX Remix on October 23rd, enabling graphical enhancements for older PC games. This rapid improvement addresses early criticisms regarding performance impact and GPU requirements, signaling a busy year of DLSS innovation.
