As of October 1st, 2025, Nothing has rolled out the open beta for its Nothing OS 4.0 update. The new Android 16-based software is now available not just for the flagship Phone 3 model, but also for some of Nothing's older devices.
The primary focus of the Nothing OS 4.0 open beta is the introduction of AI-generated Essential Apps, which are part of Nothing's broader AI ambitions for its operating system. The update also brings a range of interface improvements, including new icon styles, an enhanced dark mode, and faster app loading times for a more fluid user experience.
In addition to the AI-powered Essential Apps, the Nothing OS 4.0 open beta includes a new AI Dashboard and Playground, further showcasing the company's push towards an AI-driven platform. While the update is currently available for the Phone 3 and select older Nothing devices, the newer Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro models have not yet received the open beta.
