3 Feb
Summary
- Nintendo Switch has sold over 155 million units, surpassing the DS.
- The Switch has also sold over 1.5 billion software units to date.
- PlayStation 2 remains ahead with 160 million units sold.
As of December 31, 2025, the Nintendo Switch has achieved a historic milestone, becoming Nintendo's all-time best-selling piece of hardware. With 155.37 million units sold across all its models, the Switch has officially surpassed the lifetime sales of the original Nintendo DS, which stood at 154.02 million units.
This remarkable sales figure is complemented by massive software adoption. The Switch has sold over 1.5 billion software units, significantly outpacing Nintendo's previous consoles like the DS (948.76 million) and the Wii (921.85 million).
However, the Switch has yet to surpass the all-time sales record held by the PlayStation 2. Sony's console has sold 160 million hardware units as of March 31, 2012.
Meanwhile, the next-generation Nintendo Switch 2 has demonstrated strong performance in its initial six months, selling 17.37 million units by the end of last year. This makes it Nintendo's fastest-selling console at launch, though market analysts caution about potential price increases in 2026.
