Mercedes-AMG is launching the 2027 GLC 53, heralding a new strategy focused on inline six-cylinder engines. This marks the debut of this new powertrain configuration for the brand.
The heart of the GLC 53 is an updated 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine. It produces 443 hp and 600 Nm of torque, with an overboost function increasing torque to 640 Nm. This power is managed by a nine-speed automatic transmission and an electronic limited-slip differential.
Performance figures indicate a 0-60 mph sprint in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 167 mph. Standard equipment includes AMG Ride Control adaptive suspension, three-stage steering, and rear-axle steering. Mercedes-AMG has prioritized an engaging engine sound with signature pops and crackles.
Visually, the GLC 53 adopts AMG's signature styling. An optional Golden Accents Package will be available during the first year of production. This package includes gold-tone exterior highlights and unique 21-inch forged alloy wheels.
The GLC 53 SUV is designed for dynamic handling, with up to 100% of drive power capable of being sent to the rear axle. Pricing details are not yet available. However, the GLC 53 4MATIC+ is confirmed for an Australian release in the final quarter of 2026. The India launch details and its position relative to existing GLC 43 and GLC 63 models remain undisclosed.
