Blockchain Speeds Up IoT With New Algorithm

The Internet of Things (IoT) is expanding rapidly, connecting billions of devices that collect and exchange data. Securing this data is paramount, leading to the exploration of blockchain technology. However, most blockchain networks struggle with the speed required for many IoT applications. A research team from Chiba University in Japan has identified network topology as a key factor in these delays.
Led by Associate Professor Kien Nguyen, the team developed an algorithm named Dual Perigee. This decentralized method allows devices to intelligently select faster peer connections, optimizing the network structure organically. Simulations showed Dual Perigee reduced block-related delays by over 48.54% compared to standard Ethereum methods.
This breakthrough enables blockchain to support real-time, mission-critical IoT services. Dual Perigee's efficiency improvements mean it can be applied to future technologies such as smart cities, healthcare, and supply-chain tracking, enhancing security and trustworthiness in digital infrastructures. The research was supported by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the Japan Science and Technology Agency.
